Dear Wayne,

Welcome to Airshow Traveler Magazine's Newsletter, Air Show Weekly, where we give you a look ahead at the airshows and events coming up this week.

All air show information listed is accurate as we know it.  Still, it is best to check with the individual air show to see if there are any changes.  Even then, scheduled aircraft may not appear due to bad weather en route, or because of mechanical breakdown.

EAA Airventure, or as it is more appropriately known - Oshkosh, is the granddaddy of aviation gatherings.  There are so many aircraft on display, we cannot, nor will we attempt to list them here.  There are so many aircraft, they are actually grouped by type, such as warbirds, vintage, etc.  We keep meaning to go here every year, but we never make it because of other commitments.  Friends tell us if you love aircraft, this is the place to be.

We think so highly of this show that we are sending our photographer Pete Pellegrino to cover it.  Of course, it helps that the show is in Pete's backyard.

With the Thunderbirds as the headliner, it figures to be a great show.  Throw in our good friend Pete Jacob in his L-39 Albatross painted in Blue Angel markings and you've got some more jet noise.  There's even more thunder with the F-15C Eagle and the F/A-18C Hornet.  And as seen in the photo below of Randy Ball and his Mig-17 (1C1611, N217SH), there will be a run on earplugs at this show.  It's a jet fuel lover's dream.

Things will quiet down some with Ed Hamill, Greg Poe, and Tim Weber doing their aerobatic demos, and the Canadian Harvards will do some team aerobatics in their T-6s.

With the Snowbirds on hand to provide some jet team aerobatics, this looks like a good show.  Also on hand is Bud and Ross Granley from the Olympic Flight Museum to provide some warbird and aerobatic entertainment.  Bud and Ross are father and son.

Photos of the Week

It was a teary-eyed moment for our best buddy Bob Baranaskas at the Geneseo air show.  It was the first time his P-40 Warhawk had been used in the USAF Heritage Flight.  The aircraft was flown by the great Dale 'Snort' Snodgrass who is a qualified Heritage Flight pilot.  This is the first year that the P-40 has flown in the Heritage Flight.  We think it's a great addition to the program.

The photo below was taken by our Pete Pellegrino at the Geneseo, NY show.  Bob's P-40N (44-7368 marked as P-40E 41-1456, N740RB) is teamed up with a Viper East F-16C Fighting Falcon (91-0387) from Shaw AFB, SC.

We don't want to forget about Bob's P-51D Mustang, 'Glamorous Gal' (44-13903, NL751RB) normally flown by his son, Chris, so we present a photo of its first Heritage Flight with Snort again at the controls.  The aircraft is teamed up with a F-22 Raptor (04-4071), F-4E (QF-4E) Phantom II (72-1494), and the F-15E Strike Eagle (89-0495).  Photo was taken by our Howard German.

No one deserves such recognition of their fine aircraft like our good buds from Warbirds Over Long Island.
