The world’s only flying Fairey Firefly has graced our pages before. We love it so much we
had to put it in here again. It’s a Mk.VI model (135129, NX518WB) owned by Edward
‘Captain Eddie’ Kurdziel of San Diego, CA. This particular aircraft was one of the first ten
Mk. VIs built. It served with the Royal Australian Navy’s 816 squadron before being retired
and put atop a pole in Griffith, New South Wales. Captain Eddie, a former Navy pilot and
Northwest Airlines captain, purchased it and masterfully restored it. The Firefly was a carrier-
based aircraft with the Mk. VI version being designated for anti-submarine duty.

Since this is the last performance of the year for the Thunderbirds, we thought it
appropriate to put some photos in this issue. Nellis AFB also has one of the
