This AD-1 Skyraider (09257, NX2AD) flew during the Midway battle demonstration at the
show, but this never happened during the real battle as the Skyraider never flew in WWII.
Still it is nice to see it fly with all the pyrotechnics on the ground. This Skyraider is marked in
the colors of Navy Attack Squadron VA-115, the Eagles, that flew off the carrier USS Valley
Forge. The Valley Forge started out as an Essex class carrier (CV-45) but was overhauled
as an attack carrier (CVA-45), then overhauled again as an antisubmarine warfare support
carrier (CVS-45), and finally was overhauled one more time as an amphibious assault ship
(LPH-8). After serving in the Vietnam War, it was sold for scrap. VA-115 lives on today as
VFA-115 flying F/A-18E Super Hornets out of NAS Lemoore, CA.

The Tiger Flight Foundation, based right here at
Rome, was founded to make children aware of
the opportunities in aviation. Its motto is,
“Leading the Young to the Dream of Flight”.
Check out their website at www.

All four aircraft flown by Tiger Flight are
Ercoupes. The Ercoupe was designed by
ERCO (Engineering and Research Corporation)
shortly before WWII to be the safest aircraft in
the skies. Ercoupes were built under license by
other aircraft companies including ALON, who
manufactured the models shown here. ALON
was started by two retired Beechcraft
employees, John Allen and Lee O. Higdon.
