We don’t want to forget other museum aircraft that flew over the Labor Day weekend. In
the top photo is an AT-6D Texan (49-3829, N27409) ‘Double Trouble’. The other two
photos are of aircraft that have appeared in our magazine before. In the middle is a P-40M
Warhawk (43-5795, NX1232N) ‘The Jacky C’, while the bottom photo depicts the RB-25
(40-2168 later redesignated 62-2867, NL2825B) ‘Miss Hap’. We have erroneously
reported this aircraft as the third Mitchell built, but it was actually the fourth. Our apologies.
Seems like we can’t count sometimes. Let’s see, 40-2165 was the first, so, yep, 40-2168
would be the fourth. Duh!
Many of the spectators at Oceana came to see Dueling Sabres, but instead saw a Canadair
F-86E Mk.6 (1461 marked as 55-71461, N186FS) Sabre piloted by Ed Shipley and a P-
51D Mustang ‘Excalibur’ (45-11540, NL151W) flown by Dale ‘Snort’ Snodgrass. We
liked it so much we gave the dynamic due two pages in this issue. Photo on page 55 by
Horace Sagnor.
