The Gathering of Mustangs may be in September at Columbus, Ohio, but there was a mini-
gathering at Chino with ten Mustangs on hand with some Spam.  No, not the kind in your email
inbox.  It’s a P-51D Mustang ‘Spam Can’ (45-11582, NL5441V).
The US Air Force was split off from the Army in 1947, establishing itself as a separate branch of
the 2006 issue, page 40.  The other two aircraft in the Heritage Flight are the F-15E Strike Eagle
